An arresting police-focused soap drama that was a huge hit in its native Ireland is now available to stream in full in the UK, after STV Player acquired rights to the show from All3Media International.

Every episode of Red Rock has dropped on the free streaming service today, making STV Player the only place where UK viewers can stream the show from start to finish for free.

Set in the fictional Irish seaside town of Red Rock, the series focuses on the day-to-day lives of officers at the busy local Garda station, as well as the colourful characters who live in the town.

The show kicks off with a dramatic opener, when local man Darren Kiely is found badly beaten on the pier and CCTV implicates Michael Hennessy. Red Rock’s feuding families – the Kielys and Hennessys – have a bitter history, but the attack seems puzzling as the Gardai had believed the rivalry between the two clans had died down of late.

And when new recruit Garda Sharon Cleere trawls the CCTV for more clues, she’s shocked to discover footage which suggests one of her superiors is in a relationship with an underage schoolgirl…

Red Rock was created by acclaimed Irish writer and producer Peter McKenna, best known internationally for creating the hit BBC thriller, Kin.

British soap royalty John Yorke – whose tenure as executive producer on EastEnders saw him mastermind iconic storylines like “Who Shot Phil?” and the revelation that Kat Slater was indeed Zoe’s “muvva” – serves as an executive producer and writer on Red Rock.

And that’s not the only Albert Square connection: a later episode of the series is penned by none other than Shaun Williamson, most notable for playing EastEnders’ Barry Evans between 1994 and 2004.

Red Rock is just the latest soap to stream from the start on STV Player, as the streaming service has also become the new home of Brookside and Take the High Road in recent years.

STV Player can be found across the UK on all major platforms, including Sky Q, NOW, Virgin Media, Amazon Fire TV and Freeview Play.
