Rumpus Media has announced the appointment of Adeel Amini in the newly created role of Head of Entertainment.

The production company, known for BAFTA-winning series Late Night Lycett and The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan, has hired the Bradford-born producer to lead development and production of its entertainment slate.

Adeel will join Rumpus in August from Objective Media Group, where he produced hit ITV game show Lingo, its RuPaul-hosted US counterpart for CBS, and Saturday night BBC One smash Alan Carr’s Picture Slam, which was recently commissioned for a second series. Across his role as Series Producer at OMG, Adeel was also part of the development team for the latter two projects.

Rumpus Media is part of the STV Studios family of labels, and Adeel is no stranger to STV, having previously produced STV Studios Entertainment’s Celebrity Catchphrase for ITV. He’s also worked across many other major formats, including Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Family Fortunes.

Since starting out on ITV’s Researcher Training Scheme in 2008, Adeel has become a powerful voice for change in the industry. He’s the founder and co-chair of pan-industry working group Coalition for Change, and in 2018, he formed what is now known as The TV Mindset, a mental health support group for over 20,000 freelancers working in TV and film.

Rumpus Media’s expanding team will also include Abby Kumar as Development Producer.

Joining from Studio Ramsay, Abby has worked across entertainment formats and scripted comedy, developing and producing shows such as Sky special A League of Their Own: The Lionesses, Channel 4 travelogue series Trip Hazard, and BBC short-form comedy series The Archiveologists.

Blockquote open I could not be more thrilled to join Rumpus as Head of Entertainment, which comes as the next exciting phase of my 16-year career in the genre. I’ve been an admirer of both the company and of [Acting Managing Director] Josephine Brassey ever since I had the pleasure of working with her many years ago, and I’m very much looking forward to everything we can achieve together at Rumpus. Adeel Amini

Blockquote open Rumpus has an ambitious strategy to create and deliver original, innovative, global formats and Adeel is one of few UK talents who can deliver to the scale of this ambition in both the UK and internationally. I’ve admired the work of both Adeel and Abby, and wanted to collaborate with each of them, for the best part of my career, so I’m delighted they’ve decided to join Rumpus as we move into our next chapter.
